Pediatric Facial Surgery

Dentofacial Orthopedics

Orthodontics focuses on the alignment and straightening of teeth, while Dentofacial Orthopedics is concerned with the correction of bone irregularities in the facial structure and jaw growth.

This branch of dentistry utilizes orthopedic appliances to address these issues, particularly in children who are still in the developmental stage. By intervening early on, dentofacial orthopedics aims to correct any imbalances or irregularities in the bone structure, ensuring proper growth and alignment of the teeth and facial bones.

This comprehensive approach takes into consideration both the aesthetics and functionality of the teeth and surrounding bone, resulting in a harmonious and balanced facial appearance.

Pediatric Fracture

A crack or brake can happen in a bone when more force is applied than it can absorb. In a child, the bone tends to bend rather than break as their bones is very soft.

A Child’s bone is more prone to fracture due to lower mineral content (renal disease, growth hormone deficiency, diabetes mellitus; child abuse as they are more athletic and sportier)

The anatomy and biomechanics of a child bone differ that from of adults leading to unique paediatric fracture pattern, healing mechanics and management.
